WESCOM, Palawan -- From the resilient people of Kalayaan Municipality in Pag-asa Island to the dedicated soldiers deployed in the country's farthest territories in the western frontier, a rare but solid bond was forged as they gathered together to witness President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday, July 24, 2023.

In Pag-asa Island's Kalayaan Municipality, where isolation meets resilience, a shared sense of purpose prevailed. The islanders joined hands with their fellow WESCOM personnel stationed there, forming an unbreakable alliance that transcended distance and adversity. Together, they tuned into their televisions and watched with unwavering attention as President Marcos Jr.'s words echoed through their homes and hearts.

Meanwhile, across the vast stretches of the West Philippine Sea, also lies the outposts which stand as a testament to the unwavering commitment of Filipino soldiers in fulfilling their mandate of upholding the country’s territorial integrity and protecting its people. The BRP Sierra Madre (LS 57) in Ayungin Shoal and all the other detachments in the Rizal Reef, Lawak, Kota, Panata, Likas, Patag, and Parola Islands, serve as both a symbol of strength and home for these courageous troops. Here too, Philippine soldiers stood firm in their duty while watching their commander-in-chief deliver his SONA.

As President Marcos Jr.'s voice resonated across screens nationwide during his SONA, Team WESCOM based in Puerto Princesa City also exemplifies the deepest sense of unity across the Province of Palawan. With hearts filled with pride and determination, these valiant soldiers listened intently as he declared: "We will protect our sovereign rights and preserve our territorial integrity in defense of a rules-based international order." These words reverberated within them — a resounding affirmation that echoed through every soldier's spirit.
