JULITA, Leyte -- The Caridad Primary School of the Department of Education (DepEd) Julita District of the Leyte Division, has been chosen as a beneficiary of the Last Mile Schools Program of DepEd.
Located in a remote and upland barangay of Julita, a fifth class municipality of the Leyte province, the said school has received a school building, to include its overall structures.
During the field visitation and monitoring conducted on July 13, DepEd 8 Assistant Regional Director Ronel Firmo, together with other school officials, validated the newly-constructed school building, likewise ensuring the deed of donation for its school lot.
Per DepEd, the Last Miles School Program aims to address the gaps in resources and facilities of schools that are located in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or GIDAs
Moreover, the program focuses on those schools with less than four classrooms, usually makeshift and non-standard ones, with a travel distance of more than one hour away from the center, accessible only through difficult terrain, among others. These are also the schools with multi-grade classes, less than five teachers, and a population of less than 100 learners.
According to the DepEd officials, the provision of the additional school building will surely give a better learning environment for the less-advantaged children. (GTT/Cielito Virgil G. Acosta/DepEd Julita District)
