The local government unit of Bislig City, led by Mayor Florencio C. Garay, through the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) joined the nation in the celebration of the National Elderly Filipino Week 2023 with the theme, "Honoring the Legacy of the Filipino Senior Citizens."
Various activities took place from September 30 to October 6, 2023 that include the lively Flash Mob/Zumba for Life at the baywalk and bayfront on October 1. The following day, a motorcade took place and participated by senior citizens of the 73 chapters from the 24 barangays of the city, that was followed by a visit to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for the conduct of senior citizen membership registration, especially for the elderly persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). A health and wellness program, courtesy of Bislig Massage Therapists Association (BISMASTA), was also conducted at the OSCA conference room on October 3.
Moreover, on October 4, a healthy aging event was organized by the City Health Office (CHO) and PhilHealth that provided free medical consultation to senior citizens at the Bislig City Cultural and Sports Center, and a visit to BJMP-Bislig for the same service to the elderly PDLs.
The culmination program on October 5 featured different competitions to engage the senior citizens such as, dance , vocal solo, vocal duet, parlor games, and the search for Gulayan ni Lolo at Lola 2023.
Finally, on October 6, an advocacy program, in collaboration with the Social Security System (SSS) and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD), was facilitated at the OSCA conference room.
The annual observance is in line with Proclamation No. 470 issued in 1994, that highlighted the senior citizens' important contribution and legacy in building the community and nation.
