MANILA -- Picking up where the 2023 lineup for its first season left off, the CCP National Theatre Live welcomes the new year with American playwright Arthur Miller’s dark and chilling play “The Crucible,” screening on January 30, 2024, 6 PM, at the Ayala Malls Cinemas Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1.
Set in the Puritan New England town of Salem, Massachusetts, The Crucible tells a captivating parable of power with historical accounts leading up to the infamous 1692 witch trials. This is the same story from which the Tanghalang Pilipino’s award-winning play Ang Pag-uusig was based from.
Directed by renowned West End director Lyndsey Turner and designed by Tony Award-winner Es Devlin, this story is about a group of young women in Salem who are accused of practicing witchcraft. As a climate of fear, vendetta, and accusation spreads through the community, no one is safe from trial.
Based on true people and events, this exciting drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem explores themes of history, community, herd mentality, and truth.
Actress Erin Doherty, best known for her portrayal of the young Princess Anne in the third and fourth seasons of the acclaimed drama series The Crown, stars alongside Australian actor, screenwriter and director Brendan Cowell, whose plays have been produced by prominent theater companies in Australia and internationally, in this contemporary new staging.
First launched in June 2009, the National Theater Live is a groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theater live from the London stage to cinemas across the United Kingdom, around the world, and now in the Philippines.
