Zambo City provides fun and safe vaxx for kids

Are you ready to get your kids vaccinated?

Zamboanga City Government makes the pediatric vaccination for ages 5-11 years old fun and safe for the parents and the kids. The pediatric vaccination started on February 14 in 15 vaccination sites in the city including schools and malls.

The City Government, schools and mall management provide special treats and surprises for the children in the vaccination sites where some sites prepared a party themed set-up with mascots and balloons to make the children feel at ease and comfortable as they receive their jabs.

Nerilene lauriaga, a mother of a seven-year-old, is happy to get her child vaccinated and encourages all other moms and parents to bring their children, “do not be afraid of the vaccine, because we all just wanted to protect our children from sickness and from the virus,” she emphasized.

Another mother Shelaine Hoffdahl, who also wants her children to go back to school said that the vaccines are safe since there are a lot of people who are already vaccinated.

“Let us be afraid with COVID rather than the vaccines, because the vaccines were already tested from other countries,” she added.

Department of Health IX Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes said that they are targeting more than 500 thousand children ages 5-11 to be vaccinated in Zamboanga Peninsula. As of February 16, DOH 9 records 11,126 or 1.95 percent have received the jab.

The National Inter-Agency Task Force Chief Implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. recently visited the vaccination sites in the city and commended the efforts of the city government for the ramping-up of vaccination campaign. Sec. Galvez said that ZamPen will be prioritized in the allocation of additional vaccines for the pediatric group, “we really need to fast-track the vaccination for the kids to prepare for the face-to-face classes,” he added.

Moreover, full vaccination might be a requirement for the opening of classes soon since the NIATF is encouraging the parents to get their children vaccinated.

“We like that all school personnel is fully vaccinated so that we sustain the opening of schools,” Sec. Galvez said.

DOH IX emphasized that there are no recorded severe adverse effects from the pediatric vaccination. However, some minor effects that will be experienced is body malice which is normal after the vaccination. Parents are advised to honestly present the medical history of their children especially if there are allergies and to also present medical certificate, if needed.
