The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office (OWWA – CAR feted the 2022 winners of “Marilag Award” in time for the celebration of Women’s Month.
An institutionalized event of OWWA, the Marilag Award aims to recognize the changes introduced or contributions of women Overseas Filipino Workers and OWWA employees as leaders, entrepreneurs, front liners.
The 2022 Marilag Award Outstanding Women Leader winner is Maricar Docyogen, who will be Cordillera’s nominee for the national award.
A former OFW in Saudi Arabia (1999 – 2006), Docyogen owns the “Bookends Bookshop” in Baguio City which advocates the habit of reading as a passion among Filipinos especially to the younger generation. She also founded the Pasa - Kalye Group of Artist to help members promote their works and help popularize Cordilleran arts.
Docyogen is also a member of the Baguio – Benguet OFW Association, and an Outstanding Women Leader (OWL) of Baguio City awardee in 2020.

For the Marilag Women Entrepreneur category, awardee is Geralda Santoile of Hungduan Ifugao. A former OFW in Kuwait (1982 – 2019), she put up a hotel/lodging business named Pedracta Hotel from out of her earnings as migrant worker.
Women Frontliner Category awardee is Galiza Rose Agwilang from La Trinidad, Benguet, a former English teacher in Thailand (2008 – 2014).
For the OWWAnian Frontliner Category, awardee is Liezl Felix, who exemplifies hard work and passion in delivering OWWA programs and services for 24 years and counting.
The Marilag Awards Ceremony was held March 11 at the Orchard Hotel here. OWWA – CAR Supervising Admin Officer Edgar Melchor Laigo and Program and Services Division chief Lourdes Estocapio, Department of Labor and Employment Assistant Regional Director Anthony Wooden Jr., Commission on Population Regional Director Magdalena Abellera and Baguio Councilor Lilia Fariñas led in recognizing the awardees.
