Abreño painter brings Cordi culture to int'l arena

ABRA- A global art exhibit in the United States of America gave international viewers a glimpse of Cordilleran culture. Thanks to Abrenian Artist Jinkee Molina Sangoy who was among the Filipinos who participated in the World Arts Expo in Indiana, USA.

Sangoy said that it was such a great privilege to display her artworks in that global gallery and represent the province of Abra in an international stage. She is a native of the far-flung municipality of Bucloc where she grew up with an interest in art works at the age of seven.

Sangoy’s artworks exhibited in the World Arts Expo are mainly about the culture of Cordillera particularly the indigenous peoples of Abra, the “Tinggian”.

“Malaking blessing po iyong opportunity na ipagmalaki ang kultura ng Abra sa buong mundo, given the fact that I am the only Cordilleran participant and also a Tinggian from Bucloc, Abra,” she said.

The World Art Expo: International Marketplace 2022 allowed   guests and viewers across the globe to experience a multicultural arts exhibition of over a hundred established international and local artists. It   officially opened on February 1, 2022.

Sangoy was endorsed by fellow Filipino Maria Mañalang who is the current Program Manager of Global Village Welcome Center in Indiana. Mañalang is one of Sangoy’s customers who bought some of her paint works.

In an interview, Sangoy said that she started her painting hobbies through various children art books and coloring books that honed her painting skills.

“It all started when I was browsing these art books then I began drawing flowers, and abstract arts. From the point on, tinuloy-tuloy ko lang hanggang naging hobby ko na and painting.” Sangoy shared.

She hopes to inspire young artists to continuously practice painting.

“I continue doing this because I want to become an inspiration to many. I want to show to the next generation that art is beautiful and can relieve stress.” Sangoy said.

“Ang masasabi ko lang sa mga kabataan ngayon, don’t give up, be encouraged regardless of their discriminations to your arts kasi nasubokan ko rin. Keep moving forward and don’t give up on your talents,” she  said. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
