Enrile’s peanuts make it to Growers

After more than 40 years of hiatus in supply, Region 2’s peanuts from Enrile, Cagayan, also known as the "Peanut Capital of the Philippines," reached the doorsteps of Growers last June 2, 2022.

This endeavor was made possible through the market linkage assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry Region R2 which was an off-shoot of the Webinar on Business Opportunities in the Peanut Industry conducted by DTI's Industry Development Division (IDD)  in October 2021.

The Growers Food Industries Enterprises Incorporated (GFIEI) is a local Filipino company well-known for the Growers brand that offers a wide range of nut-based snacks that include cashews, almonds, pili nuts, and peanuts, which are exported to North America, the Middle East, Europe, and other Asian countries.

Kynan Shu Too, President of GFIEI, said that most of their raw materials are imported, which provides a huge opportunity for the region to supply more peanuts to GFIEI.

Romeo Panopio II, DTI-2 Focal Person on Processed Fruits and Nuts (PFN), facilitated the said market linkage as well as the laboratory analysis, coordination, and delivery of the one-ton shelled peanuts.

Moreover, DTI Cagayan, through its provincial PFN focal person, Maricris Galinggana, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Cagayan through Governor Manuel Mamba, provided the needed logistics for the said activity.

Shu Too expressed his hope for more peanut supplies from Cagayan Valley in order to assist more farmers in Region 2.

Furthermore, DTI-2 will convene the peanut farmers from Enrile as well as Alcala, Cagayan for the succeeding batches of sustainable peanut supply to GFIEI. (DTI-2 press release)
