Buy local: Ilocos-made products star in DTI Trade Fair

Locally made food, drinks, farm-fresh vegetables, clothing, crafts, and more are offered in this year’s 26th Partuat ti Kailokuan Trade Fair in Ilocos Norte.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-led event kicked-off this Wednesday and will run until November 29 at the Robinsons Place Ilocos in San Nicolas town.

A total of 40 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) put up their stalls to promote and sell their homegrown products.

Championing DTI’s ‘Support Local’ initiative, Amelia Galvez, provincial head of DTI-Ilocos Norte, highlighted in her message the agency’s appreciation to the MSMEs for their continued support in joining their trade fairs.

She also assured that the DTI will continue to provide all the needed support to develop markets and to promote the products of MSMEs.

“Alam naman natin na ang market is the lifeblood of a business dahil dito nanggagaling ang kanilang sales, para ma-sustain nila ang kanilang business operations. Dito sa DTI, we have continuing commitment to help our MSMEs to find markets for their products,” Galvez shared.

Elizabeth Benemerito, head of the Del-Mar CocoShell Craft Multipurpose Cooperative, said it is always an honor to be able to take part in the local trade fairs because it is an avenue for them to promote their homegrown products.

Their featured products range from home décor and kitchenware to accessories like earrings and keychains, all hand crafted and designed by their members made from coconut shells.

Moreover, Agnes Asuncion, owner of Agnes Dragon Fruit Products and first time trade fair participant, expressed her delight at the opportunity, especially after they observed a lower sales rate with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Malaking-malaki ang pasasalamat namin na na-invite kami rito sa trade fair. Malaki ang maitutulong nito sa amin especially pagkatapos ng pandemic, kaya naman galak na galak kaming makasali sa fare na ito,” she said.

Their store takes advantage of the dragon fruits’ potential and innovates them with their food products, wine, and even soap made with the local fruit.

Local inabel weavers also proudly displayed their intricately designed products that range from table runners, blankets, bags, hats, and sandals.

Aside from the booths, the DTI is also staging a craft demonstration on crocheting led by Shiela Sombrito of the Gantsilyo Filipino Association - Ilocos Norte Chapter this Friday with a free admission to mall goers who would like to join.
