Task Force Zamboanga celebrates 25 years of safekeeping the city

Task Force Zamboanga, the city’s peacekeepers headed by its Commander, Colonel Randolph P. Rojas INF (MNSA) PA celebrated its 25th Founding Anniversary on 15 May 2023 at its Headquarters in Camp General Arturo T Enrile, Malagutay, Zamboanga City with the theme: “Building Partnership, Changing lives to Prosperity”.

The awarding of personnel and stakeholders were the highlights of the unit’s anniversary. In his welcome remarks, Col Rojas looked back and paid tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Cabatangan Siege on 2001 and Zamboanga Siege on 2013 and further expressed his gratitude to the Operational Control (OPCON) unit in responding to all missions 24/7 in keeping Zamboanga City safe.

The Unit conducted a Golf Tournament for a cause for the benefit of Reception Study for Children Center (RSCC) in collaboration with the Greensweepers which was participated by LtGen. Roy M. Galido PA Commander, Western Mindanao Command, other military officials, civilians and other stakeholders. The activity began with a tee-off ceremony headed by Col Rojas and subsequently followed by the awarding of winners.

Goods worth of Php 62,741.30 were handed-over for the beneficiaries of the Golf for a cause, the orphans of RSCC, DSWD at Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City.

Meanwhile, various activities like basketball tournament, lawn tennis tournament, fun bike, and dart tournament were held which provided opportunities for participants to engage in friendly competition and showcase their skills and sportsmanship.

OPCON units of Joint Task Force Zamboanga includes Marine Battalion Landing Team-11, 15 Special Forces Company, and 905 Community Defense Center, 9 Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army were among the participants who added excitement to the events. In addition, the presence of different Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) units from WesMinCom, Combat Service Support Brigade, 9 Forward Service Support Unit, 551 Engineering Battalion, 54 Engineering Brigade, Philippine Army, 2 Logistic Support Group, 9 Intel Support Unit, 11 Infantry Division Liaison, Philippine Army, the 16th & 17th Finance Service Field Office, Finance Center Philippine Army, other local law enforcement agencies in Zamboanga City such as Zamboanga City Police Office, National Support Unit Philippine National Police, and Philippine Coast Guard, and the unit’s various stakeholders such as the local government units of Zamboanga and Lamitan cities, made the celebration even more special. The 54 Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army was declared Champion on the basketball tournament.

Col Rojas recognized the dedication of the troops for a job well done as he reminded them to remain focused and committed in performing their mandates. He also expressed his outmost appreciation to the families and dependents of the personnel for the support they have accorded to the men and women in uniform.

On top of these, Col. Rojas conveys the unit’s heartfelt appreciation for the unconditional support extended by the City Government of Zamboanga and other partner agencies in their efforts in keeping the city safe and secured. (RVC/CCP/PIA9)
