Adlaw sa Iligan: Where culture ignites, dreams take flight

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--A kaleidoscope of colors, rhythms, and dreams unfolded as people here celebrated the 73rd Adlaw sa Iligan, a significant milestone that symbolizes the city's founding as a chartered city in 1984.

The city burst into life, showcasing its vibrant culture and extraordinary achievements, captivating hearts and minds in a festival like no other.

The atmosphere crackled with electric excitement as the community ignited with the spirit of dreams and unity that defines Iligan City.

"Let this day, June 16, be a reminder of our past achievements, a celebration of our present endeavors, and a call to action for our future goals and dreams," said Mayor Frederick Siao.

Rhythmic triumph

Taking center stage was the highly anticipated inaugural Kasikas Creative Street Dancing Competition, in which 10 school districts participated. Amidst fierce competition, the City Central District emerged as the champions, their electrifying performance earning them not only the prestigious title but also the grand prize of a staggering P100,000.

Their costumes, an explosion of creativity, mesmerized the audience, securing them the accolades for Best in Costume and Most Creative. Meanwhile, the North 2 District dazzled the crowd, claiming the first runner-up position and a prize of P75,000 and winning the Best in Street Dancing award, while the North 3 District secured the second runner-up spot and a well-deserved P50,000.

The competition not only showcased the city's exceptional talent but also kindled the dreams of aspiring performers, who felt inspired to pursue their passion and embrace the boundless possibilities of artistic expression.

 "It's my first time to join. It is very exciting. I am looking forward to this and the experience today is wonderful," said Kiera Galeos, one of the participants.

A promise of sustainable future

In a resolute commitment to progress, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Local Government of Iligan City united forces, signing a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding aimed to fortify the city's water supply project, ensuring sustainable access to this vital resource.

"MinDA is one with you in shaping Iligan City as a prime business and investment destination. We are with you in creating opportunities and in taking the lead for a better future today," said MinDA Chairperson Secretary Maria Belen Acosta.

Embracing diversity

Adding an explosion of color to the festivities, the LGBTQ+ community took to the streets with a resplendent Mardi Gras float and foot parade, igniting the spirit of inclusivity and solidarity. Their exuberant presence illuminated the city, epitomizing the values of acceptance and celebration of diversity.

As the festivities unfolded, various barangays stepped into the spotlight, proudly showcasing their exquisite local products and unveiling the hidden gems that embody the essence of Iligan City. Each barangay stood tall, embodying the spirit of craftsmanship and the unique flavors that thrive within their community.
