In an interview with PIA Romblon, Nanay Fely shared that her decision to pursue ALS was driven by her desire to be an example to her grandchildren.
She wanted to show them that age should never be a hindrance to education and personal growth.
"Gusto kong maging inspirasyon sa aking mga apo na kahit matanda na, hindi dapat tumigil sa pag-aaral," she said.
Despite her responsibilities as a barangay tanod, Nanay Fely made a dedicated effort to allocate time for her studies. She also added that she will strive to continue her education by pursuing senior high school next year.
She recognized that education was not only a gift to herself but a legacy she could leave to her family.
"Kahit na may trabaho ako sa barangay, hindi ako nagpapahuli sa pag-aaral," she shared.
Her son, Claudio told PIA Romblon, that her family are proud of what Nanay Fely has achieved. He added that Nanay Fely also got a medal during her graduation at Odiongan South Central Elementary School.
He also thanked the government for the ALS program that gives a chance to Filipinos like her mother, who may not have had the chance to complete their formal education due to various circumstances.
ALS is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adult (OSYA) learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills and to access equivalent pathways to complete basic education. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA - Romblon)
