During the Bayani Ka Award 2023 ceremony, held in Quezon City, Marlyn Sodoy of Barangay Guintigbasan and Rey Ecleo Soriano of Barangay Pandan, Santa Fe were honored for their dedication to volunteerism.
Marlyn Sodoy, being a volunteer with DSWD Kalahi CIDSS, has brought significant changes to her life.
"My involvement as a volunteer in DSWD Kalahi CIDSS has brought about personal transformation, as it has taught me the value of community engagement," Sodoy shared.
Sodoy added, "Being a volunteer means allowing your heart to guide you, dedicating yourself to your community, and believing that all programs can move forward."
Meanwhile, Rey Ecleo Soriano, a fisherman, never anticipated that his voluntary service would lead to an award.
"I am deeply grateful to Kalahi for the changes it has brought into my life. It helped me discover my true self, transforming me into an explorer," Soriano shared.
He continued, "The government provides assistance, especially in the fisheries sector, and as volunteers, we give back through our commitment to our community."
In Barangay Pandan, where Rey Ecleo Soriano hails from, DSWD Kalahi CIDSS has successfully implemented two river control projects, two road concreting projects, and the rehabilitation of their barangay center.
"Now, our fellow community members have a more comfortable life. They use the improved roads, and they can see the Kalahi projects firsthand," Soriano attested to the positive impact of these initiatives.
The two Bayani Ka Awardees encouraged other volunteers to continue their work and doings as this work will benefit themselves and their community. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa - Romblon)
