Solar streetlights: Harnessing renewable energy in transforming Isabela City

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, 13 Sep (PIA) -- In a bid to improve the quality of life and enhance safety within the community, Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman inspected the newly installed solar streetlights that now illuminate once dim thoroughfares across select barangays in Isabela City. This significant initiative not only benefits the residents of Isabela City but also contributes to the overall well-being of the wider community.

The installation of solar street lights has become a priority of Mayor Hataman. A total of 367 units have already been successfully installed, while an additional 501 units are currently underway, promising further illumination and security for the people of Isabela City.

The impact of this initiative on the lives of Isabeleños cannot be overstated. Previously, the lack of proper street lighting posed significant risks to both pedestrians and motorists, leaving them vulnerable to accidents and criminal activities.

However, with the introduction of solar street lights, these once dark and dangerous thoroughfares have been transformed into safe and inviting spaces after sunset.

During her inspection, Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman expressed her satisfaction with the progress made so far. She emphasized the importance of providing a safe community for all residents by creating an environment that promotes peace of mind and fosters social connection.

The mayor's dedication to addressing the needs and concerns of the community is evident in her tireless efforts to ensure that every corner of Isabela City is well-lit and secure. Among the barangays benefiting from this transformative project are Lanote, Menzi, Cabunbata, and Tabiawan, where the solar street lights were showcased during the inspection. These once-neglected areas have now become beacons of hope, symbolizing the city's commitment to progress and community development.

Harnessing renewable energy, the solar street lights not only provide efficient lighting but also contribute to environmental sustainability. By opting for solar energy, Isabela City effectively reduces its carbon footprint and serves as a model for other communities seeking environment-friendly solutions.
