The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will launch a public service radio program dubbed "Usapang Budget Natin" over Radyo Pilipinas 1, in a bid to bolster its public communication and engagement initiatives.

"We [will] sign a Memorandum of Agreement between the DBM and the Presidential Broadcast Service–Bureau of Broadcast Services. The MOA pertains to the airing of the ‘Usapang Budget Natin’ radio show over Radyo Pilipinas 1," Goddes Hope O. Libiran, DBM Undersecretary and Supervising Senior Official for Media Affairs and Community Relations Office, told PIA-NCR.

"The DBM holds its partnership with PBS-BBS in high regard, and we are greatly optimistic about this joint venture," Libiran added, with the signing ceremony to be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the DBM Central Office in San Miguel, Manila.

Usec. Oliveros said the 'Usapang Budget Natin' radio program, to be broadcast over Radyo Pilipinas 1, would serve as a platform for discussing vital budgetary matters and government financial updates, ensuring that the Filipino public remains well-informed.

She said the radio show would also promote fiscal transparency and understanding in order to encourage more Filipinos to take a more active role in their country's financial future.

Other details of the radio show, however, will be disclosed following the signing event.

Usec. Oliveros also said the tie-up signifies a significant step for the DBM to "further reinforce its commitment to transparent and informative public communication.

The signing ceremony will be graced by prominent figures from both the DBM and PBS-BBS, as well as other key officials from the Presidential Communications Office and the Philippine Information Agency.

The collaboration between the two government entities is poised to enhance the public's understanding of budgetary processes and financial matters, ultimately fostering greater fiscal literacy among Filipinos.

The tie-up also marks a pivotal step toward creating a more informed and financially aware Filipino citizenry.

It can be recalled that the DBM, created under Executive Order No. 25 dated April 25, 1936, is mandated to promote the sound, efficient, and effective management and utilization of government resources (i.e., technological, manpower, physical, and financial) as an instrument in the achievement of national socioeconomic and political development goals.

On the other hand, Radyo Pilipinas, formerly known as Radyo ng Bayan, is the flagship AM radio station of PBS-BBS. It is situated at 738 kHz on the AM band in Metro Manila, with a power of 50 kW and a network of over 32 local and regional stations in the provinces. (PIA-NCR)
