Manila DRRMO leaves no stone unturned to safeguard public safety in Black Nazarene feast

AS THE CITY OF MANILA gears up for the much-anticipated Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9, meticulous preparations are underway to ensure not only a joyous celebration but also a safe and secure environment for the millions of devotees who will converge for #Nazareno2024. 

Spearheading these efforts is the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), working tirelessly to create a seamless experience for all attendees.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, together with MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles, City Engineer Armand Andres, and City Electrician Randy Sadac, recently led simulation exercises at Kartilya ng Katipunan. At the heart of these exercises was the unveiling of an advanced medical post, strategically positioned to cater to minor patients during the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

The medical post, showcased by Director Angeles, boasts of 30 beds designed to address various cases that may arise during the grand religious event. From minor injuries to health concerns requiring immediate attention, this facility stands as a beacon of care, ensuring that every individual receives the medical assistance they need.

Adjacent to the advanced medical post lies the Incident Command Post (ICP)—a central hub strategically located to facilitate and organize all resources for swift deployment. This command center is the nerve center of preparedness, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and effectively. It's the city's proactive approach to handling any unforeseen circumstances with precision and expertise.

The MDRRMO goes beyond mere preparation; it has an arsenal of resources ready to respond to any situation. Thirty-four fire trucks, 46 ambulance units, 10 rescue boats, six utility vehicles, and 12 K9 units are on standby to address every possible scenario. Each asset is meticulously chosen to contribute to a comprehensive strategy that ensures the safety and well-being of every participant.


Red alert status

According to a Civil Defense-NCR Facebook post, the MDRRMO has implemented a red alert status, deploying some 1,013 dedicated individuals throughout the entire duration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene. This isn't just a numerical figure; it's a united front of professionals committed to standing at the forefront, ensuring the safety and security of every attendee.

As devotees prepare to partake in #Nazareno2024, know that behind the scenes, a dedicated team is working diligently to create an atmosphere of safety and harmony.
