From gratitude to unity: Misamis Oriental's founding anniversary sparks ambitious tourism plans

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)-- Commencing its 94th founding anniversary with a thanksgiving mass and festivities on January 9, Misamis Oriental showcased not only its rich cultural heritage but also unveiled ambitious tourism plans that aim to take the province to new heights.

Governor Peter M. Unabia expressed gratitude for the province's journey of progress. However, his focus extended beyond gratitude, highlighting the unity needed to realize ambitious tourism goals.

The core of Misamis Oriental's vision is the Tourism Loop, a more than 20 million-peso project that aims to connect key attractions across the province. From the Badjangon Waterpark in Gingoog City to The Groove and Flight 387 Shrine in Claveria town, Agutayan White Island, Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan, and the Lasang Eco-Park in Initao, the Tourism Loop seeks to create a comprehensive experience for visitors.

The governor also emphasized tourism as a potent economic driver, contributing to income generation, employment, investment, and exports. The province is keen on developing its agri-tourism sector, with a focus on collaboration between local leaders at every level.

"Let us join hands, embracing our culture and shaping our future for Misamis Oriental," Unabia said.

The 11th Kuyamis Festival, running from January 8 to 14, adds an extra layer of vibrancy to the anniversary celebrations. From the Miss Kuyamis 2024 Coronation Night to the Street Dancing Competition, Pyromusical and Concert, Invitational National Airsoft Tournament, and Kuyamis Festival Booth Contest, the week promises a cultural extravaganza.

Another significant highlight is the PAGLAUM Sports events, where cities and municipalities participate, promoting sportsmanship, hard work, honesty, and solidarity among constituents.

With gratitude, solidarity, and big tourism goals, Misamis Oriental is starting a new year of growth that will hopefully see the province maintain its position as a top travel destination. (IJBD/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
