Dapitan inks tour agreement with Siquijor

DAPITAN CITY (PIA) – From the white sands of Dakak to the rich historical allure  of Rizal Park and Shrine, all the way down to the adrenaline rush of Glorious Fantasyland, the City of Dapitan is definitely a must-place in a traveler’s bucket list.

But hold on to your tote bag and sunglasses, because the ultimate vacation getaway just got even better as it joined forces with Siquijor in offering a more enticing tour package to visitors.

Located just 43.1 kilometers away from Dapitan’s island barangay of Selinog, the island province of Siquijor is yet another classic tourist destination for both locals and foreigners alike.

Last year, these two tourism powerhouses came together at Salagdoong Beach Resort in Siquijor, where Dapitan City Mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos and Siquijor Provincial Governor Jake Vincent S. Villa signed the sisterhood agreement wherein both parties agreed to promote tourism on the basis of mutual benefit and good will through keeping borders open and exchanging best practices.

However, despite Siquijor’s minimal distance from the shores of Dapitan, there is no direct trip between the two destinations. Most tourists have to to go to Dumaguete City before reaching the shores of Siquijor.

To bridge this gap, the City of Dapitan will soon be launching the Dapitan-Siquijor Connectivity via the Lazi-Dapitan route, wherein “Leisure Boat (LB) Nanay Nene” will set sail on its maiden voyage from Lazi Port in Siquijor and dock at Dakak Port in Dapitan.

However, this is not a commercial trip and can only be availed of through tourism packages as the city relaunches the Unlimited Fun in Dapitan (UnliFuDap) and Visitamos Rizal packages, each offering P11,000 worth of experience for P1,999 and P1,500, respectively.

These comprehensive tour packages attracted over 38,000 tourists between August 31 and October 30 of the previous year and have now beenexpanded to Siquijor because of the sisterhood agreement.

UnliFuDap will also be expanding to places like Bukidnon, Butuan, Bacolod, Pagadian, Zamboanga, Ipil, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Lanao, and Dumaguete, however, at a different price.

Siquijor is also currently developing its own tourist package to offer Dapitanons that highlights their greatest attractions. (NBE/EDT/PJF/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
