Ifugao student recognized for his honesty

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA)-- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ifugao commends Azarel Lex Cayong for his exemplary display of honesty in handing over a pouch he found, which contained significant items, to the Lagawe Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The pouch contains identification cards, an ATM card, and cash totaling more than P16,000 pesos. The pouch was then successfully returned to its owner, Maricel Cuti. 

Cayong found the pouch at the Provincial Plaza stage in Lagawe on November 7, 2023, and voluntarily turned it over to the Lagawe MPS.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, led by Vice Governor Glenn D. Prudenciano, presented a commendation plaque to Azarel Lex Cayong for his act of honesty in returning a pouch containing identification cards, an ATM card, and cash totaling more than P16,000 pesos. IFUGAO(PIA)--The virtue of honesty is said to be rarely possessed by people nowadays. This  Ifugao student  is one of the those who still  possesses such virtue.


The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ifugao recently commended  Azarel Lex Cayong, a 4th-year student at Ifugao State University - Lagawe Campus, and resident  of Poblacion, Hungduan.


Cayong found the pouch at the Provincial Plaza stage in Lagawe on November 7, 2023, which he voluntarily turned over  to the Lagawe municipal police station. The pouch containing  identification cards, an ATM card, and cash of  more than P16,000, was   successfully returned to its owner, Maricel Cuti. 


In recognition of his honesty, the SP led by Vice Governor Glenn D. Prudenciano, presented a plaque  of commendation to Cayong  on January 9, 2024.

In an interview, Cayong shared that he didn't hesitate to return the pouch because he firmly believes that  it's the right thing to do.


“I did not hesitate na ibalik kase alam ko ‘ung feeling na mawalan ng mga bagay na mahalaga sayo at naranasan ko din ‘yun saka di ko naman pagmamay-ari ‘yun kaya bilang isang anak ng Diyos eh dapat gawin ang nararapat,” (I didn't hesitate to return it because I know the feeling of losing something valuable, and I've experienced that. Besides, it's not mine, so as a child of God, I felt it was the right thing to do), Cayong said.


On the recognition given him, Cayong said he did not expect his simple act of honesty to get  such attention. But  extended gratitude to the Lord and those who appreciated his action.


Recently, a teacher, Carmelyne Taguiling was also commended for her honesty after surrendering a sling bag she found  containing P77,000 in cash and a driver’s license, to Radyo Kiphodan. The bag was eventually returned to its rightful owner.(JDP/FBR-PIA Ifugao)
