DPWH completes construction of shoreline protection barriers in La Union town

AGOO, La Union, June 30 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways in Ilocos (DPWH-1) completed the construction of shoreline protection barriers here.

According to DPWH-1, the project includes five units of 50-meter shoreline barriers which will protect the residents of barangays Sta. Rita Sur and Sta. Rita Central.

“The area is very prone to coastal flooding and the infrastructure will keep the residents safe, especially now that the rainy season has begun,” said DPWH-1 Regional Public Information Officer Esperanza C. Tinaza.

Tinaza said that the two barangays were identified by the Agoo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office as prone to storm surges.

“The funding of the project was charged under the 2020 General Appropriations Act or GAA with a total project cost of P23,519,999,” she added.

Moreover, she said that it was finished under the supervision of the DPWH La Union Second District Engineering Office supervised by Engr. Gil B. Lorenzo.

Meanwhile, in the Laging Handa Network Briefing News on June 21, DPWH-8 prioritized the completion of a P17.64 million concrete road project in Barangay San Andres in Julita, Leyte.
