LA TRINIDAD, Benguet(PIA)--Government authorities destroyed more than P10 million worth of marijuana plants in Kibungan, Benguet over the weekend.
In a report by the Police Regional Office-Cordillera(PRO-Cor), a three-day operation by combined operating units of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera region resulted to the discovery of 37,250 fully grown marijuana plants and 26.5 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves in ten plantation sites with estimated value of P10,630,000.00
In June 25, operatives discovered four plantation sites with 25,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P 6,800,000 planted in a 1,700 square meter land area at Sitio Dalipey, Barangay Tacadang.
Another 2,250 marijuana plants worth P2, 450,000.00 and dried marijuana plants with fruiting tops weighing 26.5 kilos with Standard Drug Price of P3, 180,000.00 were discovered in six different sites with total land area of 2,450 square meters in Sitio Naptong, Barangay Badeo on June 26 and June 27, 2021.
The PRO-Cor said that all discovered marijuana plants were destroyed on site while operatives are conducting intensive inquiries to identify the cultivators.
The operation was jointly conducted by the PNP Drug Enforcement Group - Special Operation Unit Cordillera, Kibungan Municipal Police Station, PDEA Benguet, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Mobile Force Company - Benguet, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15, Regional Special Operations Group and the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO-Cor.
Eradication operation is part of the continuing campaign to stop marijuana cultivation and transportation in the region particularly in the areas identified as sources that include the municipality of Kibungan in Benguet. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
