CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA)--The Gulayan sa Barangay project of Barangays Laya East and Laya West Rural Improvement Clubs (RIC) gets a boost from the Department of Agriculture (DA) that provided multi-cultivator machines.
Mayor Darwin C. Estranero advised the recipient-RICs to draft guidelines on the use of the equipment to assure that members would equally benefit from it.
Under the Gulayan program, the city LGU has distributed hybrid vegetable seeds to households for the production of high value crops.
Families here are encouraged to cultivate backyard vegetable gardens for household consumption and possibly as alternative income source especially this time of the pandemic
City Agriculturist Jullibert Aquino explained the program aims to push the city’s vegetable industry, which major supply comes from outside sources.
.Vegetable production is still a rising industry among local farmers compared to other major cash-crops, Aquino noted.
The City Agriculture Office, in partnership with other stakeholders, will help develop local vegetable producers. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
