DAVAO CITY (PIA) - The Social Security System (SSS) is eyeing to attract the ballooning number of motorcycle delivery riders to be SSS members.
“During the pandemic dahil marami na po sila, ang ating aim is to cover them all, yung wala pang SSS number i-invite po namin sila to register with SSS using our online services,” Greta Fe Quayle, Regional Communications Officer of SSS Davao said during the One Davao online presser held today (July 9).
“If they have a group, we prefer the leader will contact us so all their members are registered and ensure that they are paying their SSS contributions,” Quayle said of their efforts to reach out to groups of delivery riders.
She said that being an SSS member will bring them benefits and added security to their family as they are exposed to the hazards of their profession.
“These riders are exposed to accidents since they are driving motorcycles, they will be protected and their beneficiaries,” Quayle said.
One of the new features being a self-employed member is the added Employment Compensation which was implemented last year.
“Maganda kasi dito considered sila self-employed members, may feature po siya na Employee Compensation meaning ang isang rider na self-employed member nadisgrasya at the time he was working, he can claim with us for double compensation. Number one he can claim SSS sickness or disability or worse if the rider namatay siya sa aksidente dalawa rin ang makukuha niya na death and funeral claim both under SSS and under EC," Quayle describes the benefits which a rider SSS member can receive under the new scheme.
“This is the good news we want to tell them (riders).. don’t regret that you have contributed to the SSS, “ Quayle said. (PIA/RG Alama)
