ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--The city now has its own esplanade, the first-ever in Mindanao, showcasing the beauty of Mandulog River.

This, after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office through the effort of City Lone District Congressman Frederick Siao inaugurated and officially opened the newly built Mandulog River Esplanade project situated in Barangay Santiago Tuesday, July 13.

“With the opening of this world-class recreational park, we expect to see great things happening here in Iligan. We urge Iliganons to take advantage of this infrastructure project to adapt to a more active lifestyle, to establish better businesses, to build stronger relationships, and ultimately to elevate Iligan City to greater heights," said District Engineer Alykhan Ali.

Siao highlighted that the effort is not yet over though the inauguration has already transpired as the place can be still developed and upgraded involving the whole stretch of Mandulog and Hinaplanon bridges down to the coastal road.

“Hopefully, we can promote this. This can be another ‘come on’ for visitors coming from Cagayan de Oro... Dako kaayo ang potential aning lugara nga posibleng daghan mahitabo [This place has a big potential that a lot can still happen],” he said.

With the P46,575,000-worth project turned over to the barangay local government unit for their administration and monitoring, Brgy. Santiago expressed their delight as they finally welcomed the completed city attraction.

“Nagmarka kini sa history sa Brgy. Santiago kay niabot gyud among pangandoy nga maopen na siya. Dako kaayo ang pasalamat sa barangay council, sa katawhan sa Brgy. Santiago nga naa kini nga proyekto kay mapasaka niini ang ekonomiya sa Iligan City, ilabina usab sa panginabuhian sa Brgy. Santiago,” said Brgy. Santiago Captain Felipe Villaver Jr.

[This marks the history of Brgy. Santiago because our ever-longed dream which is that this would be opened has finally come. The barangay council and residents of Brgy. Santiago are thankful because this project is here and this will alleviate the economy of Iligan City, especially the livelihood of Brgy. Santiago.] (CRG/PIA-10/ICIC Lanao del Norte)
