OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA)--To ensure safety while on the road, the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Ozamiz requires motorcycle riders to wear shoes while driving, July 7.
PMaj. Dennis Tano said motorcycle riders wearing slippers will be given a citation ticket of P100 for first offense, P150 for second and third offense to correct the motorist.
“We reviewed the national law under RA 4136 and ordinances that all motorcycle riders should wear shoes for both private and public utility use,” Tano said.
He added that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) only made suggestions as to what motorcycle riders should wear to be safe while on the road.
“Gisugdan na gyud namo ug pagpangdakop sa mga motorista or riders kay nakita man gud nato sa atong record sa traffic investigation nga mostly sa motorcycle nga naka-cause ug injury aside sa helmet nga atong gi-implement nga nalessen na ang casualties; wala na kaayo head injury sa disgrasya. Karon nasad atong nakita nga mostly sa motorcycles nga ma-involve sa disgrasya ang kani na pong tiil ang ma-injured,” Tano shared.
(We are monitoring the motorists or riders because we have seen in our records on traffic investigation that there are now less casualties and head injuries upon the implementation of wearing helmets. Lately we noticed that there are a lot of accidents that involved feet injuries)
He said the campaign is nothing new and they also strictly implemented the rules on the improvised motorcycles, no plate number, and no helmet.
The PNP Ozamiz also intensified their efforts to catch not only those who are wearing slippers but also those who commit other violations. (SMRN/RTP/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
