11 learners from ELCAC barangays in Tubo are ALS completers

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) - - Twenty three learners  of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education in  Tubo municipality recently completed and passed assessment  earning  them their Junior High School Level Certificate of Program Completion.

Of the 23 completers for school year 2019-2020, 11 belong to the barangays identified under the Whole of Nation Approach in ending local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) program of the government.

Said learners are from barangays Dilong, Kili and Tabacda. The rest of the completers are from barangays Poblacion, Amtuagan, Tiempo and Wayangan.

Education Program Specialist in ALS Reynaldo Calinap said the completers   are referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for technical-vocational courses or they may opt to continue and enroll under the Senior High program.

Calip said these junior high school completers are among the first batch where the portfolio assessment was employed.

Due to the restrictions imposed because of the COVID 19 pandemic, the computer-based Accreditation & Equivalency Test for ALS completers would not be possible.  Instead the DepEd decided that result of the presentation portfolio assessment shall be the basis for the issuance of elementary diploma or a Junior High School Level Certificate of Program Completion.

Calinap said teachers are required to undertake a revalidation with program completers to ensure that the presentation portfolios are their original outputs and that they meet the required points.

“Tatta ta portfolio assessment, dagidiay kompleto ti papeles na nga ubbing isu da ti naassess, isu da iti nakapasa tatta a tawen for 2019 and 2020 (Now that it is through portfolio assessment, learners with complete papers were the ones who were assessed. They were the ones who passed for SY 2019 and 2020),” said Calinap.

Since the onset of the pandemic, ALS learners who used to have face-to-face sessions are now into distance learning using modules. In compliance to health protocols, modules are accessed and sent through a drop-off area in coordination with barangay officials and parents.

As education knows no bounds, DepEd is encouraging those who have stopped studying to be part of ALS.

Learning through ALS is not that late such as those who married early or those who have transferred to other places which may have hampered their schooling may enroll, said Calinap.

Those who want to be enlisted for ALS are encouraged to register in schools near them for their inclusion in the next school year. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Abra
