NegOr gets 8 composting facilities worth P7.6M

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, July 16 (PIA) -- The Negros Oriental provincial government received eight composting facilities worth P7.6 million from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Bureau of Soil and Water Management.

These composting facilities for biodegradable waste were turned over to the local government units (LGUs) of Amlan, San Jose, Pamplona, Manjuyod, Zamboanguita, Dauin, and Guihulngan and Tanjay cities.

The equipment is funded under DA's high value crops development program and organic agriculture.

During the distribution, the mayors who personally received the certificate of turnover thanked DA for the project as it will help them address their primary problem on biodegradable waste.

Each composting facility has a rotary cultivator and a shredder amounting to P950,000 with a loading capacity of one ton (1000 kg) per load.

Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer Sarah Perocho of DA here encouraged the LGUs to maximize the use of the composting facility to help solve their farm and household waste problems.

"Atong ampingan kining hinatag nga butang kay makatabang kini og dako sa pagpadayon sa kalimpyo sa atong lugar ug ingon man sa atong kinaiyahan (We should take good care of this facility as this is a big help in maintaining the cleanliness of our surroundings and the environment)," Perocho said.

Guihulngan City Mayor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes, who received the composting facility, said the equipment is timely as their city has an urban gardening program.

Reyes said the fertilizers they will produce through the facility can be used by their constituents in establishing home gardens. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
