Bacolod City, bikers condemn NPA atrocities

BACOLOD CITY (PIA)—The Bacolod City government through Liga ng mga Barangay president Lady Gles Gonzales Pallen supported the "Bike for Peace and Justice" as she condemned the killing of innocent persons in the country.

In her speech, she relayed Bacolod City mayor Evelio Leonardia’s appreciation for the participation of bikers from different clubs and those from the government that pedalled from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to Barangay Punta Taytay here, July 17.

Close to 150 participants joined the "Bike for Peace and Justice" lending their voice in condemning the human rights violations of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

The bikers particularly deplored the killing of football athlete Kieth Absalon and his cousin Nolven, when both died from an improvised explosive device the CTG planted, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Information Officer Sherlock Gabana said.

Gabana added the activity is also in support to families whose loved ones suffered in the arms of the New People’s Army (NPAs).

The pack converged at a local beach resort to hold a program where bikers signed a manifesto to stop communist terrorist violence and the dissolution of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army- National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

The   manifesto says the CPP-NPA-NDF is a “threat to right to life, right to family and right to have true and lasting peace.”

Activity organizer Joseph Nazareno, president of the Community Information Service Support Group (CISSG), also aired condemnation on the brutalities of the CTG in the country.

After the program the participants also held a coastal clean-up that yielded sacks of garbage strewn across the shoreline.

Gabana said the holding of the Bike for Peace and Justice in Bacolod City is a success as he urged the bikers to continue supporting the programs of the government. (AAL/Lljr/PIA6-Negros Occidental)
