House releases website for SONA 2021

BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) -- The House of Representatives launched a dedicated website with verified information regarding President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's impending State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The new website, according to Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco, offers not only the latest news and updates about the President's sixth and final State of the Nation Address, but also the Duterte administration's legislative successes.

"President Duterte has actually accomplished a lot in the past five years he was ,in office, and this website will bear all those achievements," Velasco pointed out.

The congress.gov.ph/sona2021 is a microsite of the House of Representatives' official website that serves as a repository of relevant data pertaining to President Duterte's public address scheduled for July 26.

The Legislative Performance Report of the House and selected speeches delivered by members of the 18th Congress as published in the book "In the Name of the People" will be added to the website in the coming days.

Moreover the web portal also hosts one-and-a-half-minute videos created by each of more than 200 district and partylist representatives who have joined, 'Sa Lahat ng Pagbabago, Salamat Pangulo!' (For all the Changes, Thank You President) campaign. (A Pre-SONA Tribute by the 18th Congress).

The Speaker spearheaded the campaign, which was launched last July 5 on the House's official Facebook page, and highlights priority programs, initiatives, and policies executed in various parliamentary districts and development sectors around the country since President Duterte took office in 2016.

"President Duterte deserves gratitude of all Filipinos for the many good things he has done for the country, including the string of landmark legislation that we never thought would be possible, as well as high impact programs and critical reforms aimed at improving the quality of life of Filipinos," Velasco said.

The House speaker stated that laws on universal health care, free tertiary education, expanded maternity leave, and free public internet access were all passed during Duterte's term.

"At the height of the pandemic, Congress and the Executive worked together to produce pieces of legislation designed to help address and cushion the socioeconomic impact of the ongoing public health crisis, such as the Bayanihan laws, General Appropriations Act of 2021, and COVID-19 Vaccination Program Act," he said.

The Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act, which was long delayed and aims to better the lives of poor coconut farmers and their dependents, was also enacted during this government, as per the Speaker.

"I look at the President’s term as a whole, and he has definitely done a lot for this country in those years that he’s the leader of our nation,” Velasco said. (ENSJR/RAMJR/PIA Mimaropa)
