BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The local government unit here is giving free vegetable seedlings to its villagers as part of its campaign to promote vegetable gardening in homes and in communities.

Mayor Pepito Balgos said vegetable seedlings are now being prepared at the Bambang Integrated Agri-Tourism Learning Site (BIATALS) in time for the rainy season.

"We are ready to distribute free vegetable seedlings to interested villagers who want to plant in their homes and farms. We hope that this project will provide vegetables for our villagers for domestic and livelihood purposes," he said.

Balgos said the distribution of free vegetable seedlings is in support of the Plant Plant Plant program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to promote and encourage backyard gardening especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the LGU in partnership with the DA also established 'Gulayan sa Barangay' zones in barangay Salinas, San Leonardo and Sto. Domingo Proper.

The program aims to enhance the resources of the barangays to produce their own food through adaption of various technologies, increase food production and produce safe food for the villagers.(MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
