DSWD 6 submits financial aid proposal to help Ilonggos

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas has already submitted a proposal for financial assistance for families who will be affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the city and province of Iloilo.

DSWD 6 Regional Information Officer May Castillo, in a recent interview over the PIA Kapihan Regionwide program of the Philippine Information Agency 6, said the proposal was submitted on July 16 and they are now awaiting for the response from the national government.

In case the proposal will be approved, Castillo said they will implement the augmentation support, in partnership with the concerned local government units as DSWD, being a national government agency, only provides technical assistance to augmentation providers such as the LGUs.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution No. 127-E series of 2021 on July 15 placed immediately the city and province of Iloilo under ECQ until July 31 upon the recommendations of the Department of Health, its Technical Advisory Group, and the Technical Working Group on COVID-19 Variants.

Castillo said DSWD 6 has also requested to its Central Office for additional food packs to help affected Ilonggo families cope during the imposition of the new quarantine classification.

She said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has appealed for 150,000 augmentation of family food packs per week from the national government.

On July 16, some 5,000 family food packs (FPPs) from the Visayas Disaster Response Center in Cebu arrived here in addition to the existing standby stock pile in the region.

Around 6,000 family food packs were released to the Iloilo City government on July 17.

According to Castillo, the Iloilo provincial government has already met with representatives from DSWD 6 regarding their request for augmentation support.

The FPPs from the Visayas Disaster Response Center contain six kilos of rice, five sachets of coffee, five sachets of cereal, four cans of corned beef, four cans of tuna flakes and two cans of sardines.

Castillo assured affected Ilonggos that the DSWD is trying its best to respond to their needed aid during the ECQ and reminded them to continue to observe health protocols and get vaccinated to reduce risk of getting infected with the virus. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
