Gov’t helps former rebels to start a new life

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The government continues to assist former rebels to start a new life following their surrender to the folds of the law.

Both the national government and local government units have affirmed their support to the former rebels by providing them financial assistance and all other needed help.

Recently, a former rebel from Calinog town in Iloilo received assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) from the national government.

Alias Princess received on July 12 a total amount of P65,000 under the E-CLIP, of which P50,000 is for livelihood assistance and P15,000 is for immediate assistance.

Likewise, a former rebel from Dumarao, Capiz received P10,000 pesos financial assistance from the Capiz provincial government.

The aid was handed over by Governor Esteban Evan Contreras as part of the province’s peace initiatives through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office-Capiz to aide Capiznon former rebels.

The two are just among the many former rebels who were provided help and assistance by the government after choosing to start a peaceful life with their family while reintegrating themselves in the mainstream society.

E-CLIP is the flagship program of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration that seeks to effect social healing and national unity through a whole-of-nation approach towards genuine, just, and lasting peace.

It provides social equity to former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF and the Militia ng Bayan to reintegrate them into mainstream society. These benefits do not serve as an end but a means to aid the Former Rebels in starting their lives anew.

Sison has reiterated anew his call to the remaining members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) to lay down their arms and surrender to the government.

(PIA6/With report from 301Bde CMO Officer Capt. Hazel Joy Durotan)
