Vizcaya drug surrenderees get training on mushroom culture

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - Drug surrenderees here were recently given livelihood training as part of their development as responsible villagers in their respective communities.

Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office (NVPPO) Director Colonel Ranser Evasco said 24 drug surrenderees from four towns of the province were given skills training on mushroom production by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Bueno Integrated Farm (BIF), an accredited Learning Site for Agriculture (LSA) by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

"Through this skills training, our drug surrenderees will learn how to earn a living when they will complete their rehabilitation from being drug dependents," Evasco.

He said the skills training was initiated by the Provincial Community Affairs & Development Unit of the PNP Nueva as part of the 26th Police Community Relations Month celebration.

Evasco said the community-based training was also conducted in support of the PNP's aim of mainstreaming misguided drug traffickers and users to become micro-entrepreneurs.

He said the skills training will be sustained by TESDA to fully transfer the technology of mushroom production among the participants.# (MDCT/BME/PIA Nueva Vizcaya)
