MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, (PIA)--A modernized city jail is set to be unveiled here soon.
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary and Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairperson Eduardo Del Rosario bared in an interview that the city jail is set to be completed on November 15, this year.
"Napakaganda ng ipinapagawang Marawi City Jail [The Marawi City Jail that is being constructed is very beautiful]. It is the biggest and the most modern in the whole BARMM," he said.
Del Rosario stressed that the facility can house at least 1,000 inmates and can also accommodate high-risk personalities.
He further said that this will also serve as a rehabilitation center for all prisoners as facilities for comprehensive livelihood, technical development and recreational activities will be built in the area to host various games including basketball, and volleyball, among others.
Del Rosario said the modern jail will mainly serve detainees from the city but given its capacity, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) may also coordinate so that inmates from its provinces may also be catered.
“This project is for Marawi City but BARMM can also make arrangements to accommodate other provinces because this is too huge for 1,000 inmates,” he added.
The city jail is now at a 63% accomplishment rate and is expected to continuously advance its progress until it is fully constructed. (CRG/PIA-ICIC)
