BANGUED, Abra (PIA) - - The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) biometrics registration towards acquiring a single national identification or Philippine Identification (PhilID) card is underway in Abra.
The biometrics registration which captures the registrants’ biometric information such as fingerprint biometrics, iris scans, and face photographs is the second of the three steps of the PhilSys process.
The PhilID is a valid proof of identity that can be used for government and private transactions and eliminates other forms of IDs.
Philippine Statistics Authority Head Felix Perdido said biometrics registrants for the month now reached 12,335 as of July 21, 2021. The target for July is 14,688.
For June, PSA overshoot its target of 5,148 with actual registrants of 6,112.
For 2021, a total of 173,688 individuals are targeted for biometrics registration.
PSA-Abra is equipped with 13 registration kits with four units stationed at the Registration Center of the Provincial Office.
The remaining nine registration kits are temporarily stationed in three municipalities simultaneously with three kits positioned for every municipality, said Perdido. These are transferred to other areas after accomplishing the target for the town.
Already completed are the towns of La Paz, Lagangilang and Bucay while registration is ongoing in the municipalities of Dolores, Danglas and Manabo.
Perdido said they are expecting 15 additional registration kits by September to beef up its operations with Abra having 27 municipalities, the biggest in the Cordillera region.
Walk-in applicants are entertained but priority is given to those who underwent step 1 earlier or those who had their demographic data collected prior to the roll-out of biometrics registration, Perdido said.
PSA Undersecretary Dennis Claire Mapa who visited the roll-out of biometrics registration in Tublay, Benguet last June said Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will produce the national ID ensuring its confidentiality and integrity. (JDP/SCA-PIA CAR)
