BACNOTAN, La Union, July 24 (PIA) – – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar turned over various projects to Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) North La Union Campus, this town, on July 22.
These projects include a farm-to-market road (FMR) project worth P37.5 million, swine multiplier farm worth P10 million, a road development project leading to the multiplier farm at P8 million, a demonstration farm and training center worth P4.875 million, and various farm machineries and equipment valued at P3 million.
“State universities and colleges such as the DMMMSU will always be a key partner of the Department in enhancing the growth and development of Philippine agriculture,” Dar said in his message.

During his visit, Dar led the inauguration of the modernized swine multiplier farm that will serve as a learning center for the university students.
It is also aimed to provide extension support services and enhance policy advocacies aimed at producing and providing quality hogs for the province and nearby areas.
“Mas kailangan ng experience ng estudyante at trainees to enable them to produce quality and sustainable food supply. You need to have actual projects in order to learn,” he said.
On top of the P63 million worth of projects, Dar committed P25 million as an additional fund for the proposed FMR project and another P10 million for the swine multiplier farm project.
“Habang tayo’y nandyan sa kagawaran ng pagsasaka ay aasa po kayo na ang partnership ng DA at DMMMSU will continue to be put to a higher level para sa ganun ‘yung mga estudyante ninyo ay they will graduate with good solid experiences. Experiential learning is a must,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, DMMMSU President, extended his gratitude to the DA for the agri-fishery interventions.

“Maraming salamat po sa mga ipinagkaloob mo sa aming paaralan for providing us funds for research and extension, and other development funds. We cannot thank you enough,” Manuel told the DA chief.
Meanwhile, Dar also awarded one unit of 62-footer ring net fishing boat worth P23 million to the Damortis Fisherfolk’s Association from Santo Tomas town.
