Gov. Cua: Everyone has a role to play in nation building

MADDELA, Quirino (PIA) - - Governor Dakila Carlo Cua has urged all the Quirinians to take part in the development of the province saying that a person does not need to be a municipal mayor or barangay captain to be able to contribute in nation building.

Speaking at the launching of Bamboo Planting at Divisoria Norte, Maddela, Governor Dax, the main goal of the activity is to Build, Back, Better Quirino which is not limited to better roads and buildings but a better community.

Gov Cua said, with simple tree planting, simple family care, simple following our protocols, our policies, those are a big help. We plan how long our nature will last for our children, grandchildren, and for future generations to enjoy

Cua said.

(And here next to this rock, under this tree, with all of you here today, may we all take it in our hearts the dream to Build Back Better our province. It also includes our mentality that in Build Back Better we should reflect, what are the things we used to do that we can make better and one of them is the planting of bamboo on the side of the river so that the people from the downstream areas are not going to be flooded)

Governor Cua likewise urged all environment stakeholders to invest not only in the downstream but also in Maddela, Nagtipunan, Aglipay and in the whole province to be able to protect the whole watershed by building a frame of mind for the environment.

Cua added.

(With simple tree planting, simple family care, simple following our protocols, our policies, those are a big help. We plan how long our nature will last for our children, grandchildren, and for future generations to enjoy.)

Gov. Cua also thanked the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) headed by Director Harold Cabreros for its support in the province’s goal to build disaster resilient communities.

Cua said.

(These past typhoons, we have received tremendous support from OCD and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in repairing roads in the villages that have been really devastated, there are housing projects that are being supported, livelihood programs and terraforming or the repair of our environment that our government really supports so thank you Sir Cabreros for your help and support)

For his part, OCD Regional Director Cabreros said that the riverbanks are now saturated due to the volume of water brought by the previous typhoons like Ulysses so it is imperative to plant bamboo to absorb the water and prevent flooding in the downstream.

(In our bamboo planting program, I noticed that most of the sites for bamboo planting are in Cagayan so I said we also need to take care of the water source of Region 2, where the water begins to flow down the Cagayan River.)

Cabreros said it is for this reason that he requested Maddela as the venue for bamboo planting to protect the environment and at the same time prevent the residents in the downstream from severe floods.

(If we can already protect here in the upstream, we can also protect those who are in the downstream so that is the importance of our planting here in this area. So, I am especially grateful to our good governor for inviting me to hold such an activity here today)

Meanwhile, Maddela Mayor Rimel Tolentino thanked the OCD for conducting the bamboo planting activity in their municipality as he expressed his hope that in the next NDRR month, the OCD will again choose Maddela as the venue. (TCB/PIA-2 Quirino)
