WHO clears 'rumors' on COVID-19 vaccines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, July 27 (PIA) - World Health Organization (WHO) clarified the rumors and unverified information on COVID-19 vaccines that are currently spreading in the island barangays here.

The Zamboanga City Demand Generation and Risk Communication Team doubled their efforts in addressing the pressing concerns of the island residents relating to the fast spreading fake news on the controversial COVID-19 vaccination rollout.

World Health Organization Public Health Consultant Dr. Mamat Cham (right) and Zamboanga City Mayor's Executive Assistant Yahya "Jojo" Abusalam (left) encourage the island residents to take the COVID-19 vaccines.

“It is not true that we will lose our sanity and our lives will be limited to two years after we vaccinate,” WHO Public Health Consultant Dr. Mamat Cham said during the visit of the team in Barangay Landang Gua, Sacol Island yesterday, July 27.

Dr. Cham explained to the island residents that government will not provide vaccines that will harm its constituents. “There is nothing to be afraid of,” he said.

“The WHO only approves those vaccines that passed the required clinical phases as proof of its safetiness and efficacy,” he added.

After the information session, the residents have chosen to get the COVID-19 jab and became information multipliers that will help the city propagates only the correct information about vaccines.

"Kami ay nagpapasalamat sapagkat ang gobyerno ay dumating dito upang linawin ang kumakalat na mga maling impormasyon sa mga residente dito,” Landang Gua Barangay Captain Ben Insani said.

[We are grateful because the government came here to clarify the spreading misinformation among the residents here]

The conduct of the information session held simultaneously with the other half of the team in Barangay Landang Laum situated in the same island of Sacol.

The city will revisit the island for the vaccination rollout that is tentatively scheduled this weekend, once the masterlist of the recipients will be made available on July 30. (RVC/EDT/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
