BJMP 12 records zero-inmate escape

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has zero recorded escape so far in all jail facilities in the Soccsksargen region, an official of the agency said.

JSSupt. Simeon Dolojo Jr., BJMP 12 regional director, said they had no data of incidents where a person deprived of liberty (PDL) escaped from their watch.

Dolojo said this is attributed to the collaborative effort of the men and women of BJMP and the proactive security measures implemented inside district, city, and municipal jails.

“This is a collective effort of the BJMP. Ang mga takas kasi based on our experience ay human factor. By putting the right person for the right job, constant dialogue with PDLs and surprise inspections we are able to maintain the zero-escape record,” Dolojo said during the Performing and Informing Program of the Philippine Information Agency 12.

Director Dolojo noted that the BJMP is also addressing the congestion problems through various infrastructure projects being implemented.

“Marami tayong on-going infra projects like jail facilities with new design that could accommodate a good number of PDLs. This include the new buildings and perimeter fences for city, municipal and district jails in Tacurong City, Koronadal City and Polomolok in South Cotabato and Kabacan and Makilala in Cotabato Province,” RD Dolojo said.

“These are almost 100% done. The inmates are expected to be transferred and occupy the new buildings anytime this quarter,” the official added.

These new facilities, as BJMP highlighted will be a big boost to their reformatory and rehabilitation programs for the PDLs.

“Malaking kaginhawaan ito para sa PDLS. Mas malawak ang space. We can easily conduct reformatory activities for them like gardening and other recreational activities. Ang BJMP po ay trained professionals to assist our PDLs, hindi i-punish. Gone are the days of retribution or i-punish natin sila. Nowadays, ang proper approach ng BJMP is reformatory. Tinitingnan natin yung potential ng isang tao at ine-enhance natin to develop them as a good individuals, so that when they join back the society, matino na sila at hindi na sila malululong pa ulit o papasok sa bilangguan,” Dolojo said.

BJMP operates 15 jail facilities in the region. These are Alabel District Jail and Malapatan District Jail in Sarangani Province; Gensan City Jail – Male Dorm and Gensan City Jail – Female Dorm in General Santos City; Polomolok Municipal Jail and Koronadal City District Jail in South Cotabato; Tacurong City District Jail – Male Dorm, Tacurong City District Jail – Female Dorm and Isulan District Jail in Sultan Kudarat Province; Kidapawan City District Jail, Makilala District Jail, Kabacan District Jail, Pigcawayan District Jail, North Cotabato District Jail – Male Dorm and North Cotabato District Jail – Female Dorm in Cotabato Province.

BJMP is celebrating their 30th Anniversary of service to the people this year with the theme "Tatlong Dekada ng Mahusay na Serbisyo Publiko, Matibay na Sandigan sa Tunay na Pagbabago.". (PIA XII)
