NAGA CITY (PIA) -- Persons deprived of Liberty or PDL detained at the four jail units of Caceres will be one of the beneficiaries of the 20-km “Pedal Ki Maria” Fun Bike, slated on August 14, Saturday.

PDLs staying at the Tinangis Penal Farm in Pili, Camarines Sur, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Naga, BJMP- Iriga and BJMP-Tigaon were selected as recipients of the activity’s proceeds, along with abandoned children housed at the Naga City Children’s Home in Pacol, Naga City.

Fazenda de Esperanza, a community rehabilitation for persons with alcohol and drug addiction problems located at Carolina, Naga City was also chosen to be one of the event’s beneficiaries.

Sis Many Janet, Missionary volunteer who has been working hard for the promotion of the Pedal ki Maria together with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate said that the fun-bike event wishes to promote faith, hope, love, and peace in these trying times brough by the COVID 19 pandemic.

“May this feast activities uplift the lives of our fellow being, that we will not be gripped with fear by the evil of the virus, that the call to unity, optimism and charitable works prevail as we fight as one for the good of humanity and for the love and greater glory of God,” Janet added.

“Pedal ki Maria” will be one of the highlights of St. Maximillan Maria Kolbe Feast Day. Aug. 14 also marks the 80th death anniversary of Kolbe, a Franciscan priest and missionary whose great love for the Blessed Virgen Mary inspired his work and spirituality.

Kolbe is known as the Patron Saint of the Difficult Century, prisoners, drug addicts, journalists, media men, families, pro-life movement and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

The event’s kick-off ceremony will start at 5:00AM. Participants will assemble at the Naga City Metropolitan Cathedral at the 

Quadricentennial Arch facing Porta Mariae.  For those who have not registered yet, an onsite registration will be conducted on the said date.  

Initially, the route will cover Panganiban, Del Rosario, Cararayan and Pacol and will culminate at the Mary Co Redemptrix Church, San Felipe, Naga City. 

The organizer is enjoining interested bikers to register ahead of time if they wish to avail of the event’s t-shirt.

The Php300.00 registration fee will cover the dri-fit Pedal ki Maria shirt, finisher medal, mask, snacks at the culmination site, rosary, brown scapular, miraculous medal, medal of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, stampitas, raffle ticket and finisher certificate.

The grand prize winner for the raffle will receive a 22-inches Our Lady of Penafrancia statue (fiber glass and cloth manto) while the second prize winner will receive one (1) mountain bike.  Consolation prizes are 5 divine frames, 5 fruit baskets, 1 divine shirt and 5 grocery bags.  

Aside from the fun bike, triduum masses will also be held on Aug.11, 12, 13 and on the 14th, 5:00PM the Mary Co-Redemptrix Parish, San Felipe, Naga City.
