CHED-1 to conduct Peace Education Project

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Aug. 15 (PIA) --  The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Ilocos will conduct a Peace Education Project for Higher Education Institution (HEI) students on Aug. 17 and 18.

Rogelio T. Galera, CHED-1 regional director, said the two-day activity aims to strengthen the implementation of the integration of peace studies into the curriculum and in support of the Executive Order (EO) No. 70.

“This is part of our strong commitment to promote peace in education,” said Galera.

The CHED-1 will partner with line agencies related to the promotion of E.O No. 70 such as the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of Justice, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.

Participants shall be divided into two clusters – Cluster 1 for Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur HEIs and Cluster 2 for La Union and Pangasinan HEIs.

A total of 500 students per cluster are expected to attend the said event via Zoom.

Jennilyne C. Role, regional director of the PIA in Ilocos, welcomes this partnership with the CHED-1 as it will add to the various advocacy activities being conducted in the region by the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC1).

“As the lead of the Strategic Communications Cluster of the RTF-ELCAC1, the PIA will continue to support all endeavors promoting the EO No. 70 aimed to pursue the country’s peace agenda,” Role said.

Recently, the PIA spearheaded the conduct of Peace Education Forum in partnership with the Department of Education in Ilocos (DepEd-1) wherein more than 5,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel from the 14 schools division offices regionwide participated. (JCR/AMB/JPD, PIA La Union)
