CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- “Kayanakan Kontra AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance)” project of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of San Nicolas 1 in Magalang, Pampanga got the accolade in the health category of the 2nd National Search for Outstanding SK Project Awards.
SK San Nicolas 1 Chairperson and current SK Federation Pampanga President Gabriel Moshe Lacson said the project is a youth-led and evidence-based community intervention which is aims to address AMR and improper use of antibiotics in the grassroots.
The AMR study in barangay San Nicolas 1 was conducted by SK officials in partnership with Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH).
Launched in April 2021, the campaign is a call for awareness and action in the community especially among mothers in the barangay who are the primary caregivers of the youth and have inadequate and improper knowledge on antibiotics use and AMR. This translates to a significant prevalence of improper antibiotic self-medication in the community.
