Andanar spells out Duterte legacy to Negrosanons

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) – Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said the 229,000 hectares of land given to farmers in the country is one of the biggest land distribution programs in history that happened under the administration of President Rodrigo Deterte.

Speaking on the legacy of Pres. Duterte’s administration, he said about 1-million farmers owning 10 hectares and below availed of free irrigation while the "Build, Build, Build" program has constructed 29,000 kilometers of road with 451 seaports and 214 airports completed.

He also cited the accomplishments of the government’s anti-drug campaign that has cleared 22,000 barangays across the country.

Interviewed by Win Salinas of Brigada News FM Bacolod, Andanar said it is under the administration of Pres. Duterte that the Freedom of Information was created as well as the framing of Administrative Order No. 01 or the Presidential Task Force that will look into violations of the right to life, liberty and security of the members of the media.

Also, the Media Workers Welfare Bill is being pushed in congress and the Philippine Broadcasting Corporation Bill, he said.

About two million Filipinos benefited from the Malasakit Center while 1.6 million students availed of the government’s free tuition in tertiary institutions - colleges and universities under the Free Tuition Act.

He said the Mindanao Media Hub is the biggest media facility in the whole country while the Visayas Media Hub in Cebu will have the state of the art media facility and will be better than that of Metro Manila.

He also announced the establishment of the country’s first Government Communication Academy that will teach, equip and upgrade skills of the information officers from the barangay up to the national level.

He said the "Laging Handa Crisis Communication Policy" of the PCOO is the people’s access to the government’s communication activities in times of crisis.

“Which means that everytime merong sakuna, merong bagyo (whenever there are calamities or typhoons) we turn on

the entire government media machinery, moving in one direction to communicate and inform the public,” the PCOO Chief said.

The government’s campaign on basic health public protocol during the early part of the pandemic to the present is disseminated in all regions in collaboration of the PCOO, the media and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KBP), he said.  (AAL/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
