OFWs undergo agri-kabuhayan balikbayan program

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug 21 (PIA) – Returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are from the different municipalities of Zamboanga del Norte underwent an agri-kabuhayan orientation on Thursday.

Some 50 returning OFWs attended the Regional Information Campaign for Overseas Filipinos at Poblacion, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte on August 19, 2021.

This micro agri-kabuhayan para sa balikbayan program was organized through the partnership between the Department of Agriculture IX (DA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to provide the OFWs livelihood and business opportunities.

"The DA is primarily intended for food production. There are various programs of the DA that can cater to the needs of the farmers; provision of planting materials, machinery and other needed inputs," George Vallente, Zamboanga del Norte-Agricultural Provincial Coordinator said.

He also encouraged the OFWs who are farmers to enroll in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA) to avail of DA projects and programs.

OWWA Regional Director Ron Lionel M. Bartolome, Victoriano Joseph from DA Agricultural Credit Policy Council, Bayani Valencia from DA-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (DA-AMAD) were also present to discuss the programs offered by different agencies.

The DA also distributed 50 packs of assorted vegetable seeds after the program. (EDT/RVC/PIA9 with reports from Aimee Lou D. Madjus /DA-RFO IX, RAFIS)
