ILIGAN CITY (PIA) -- Determined to carry out the whole-of-nation approach in addressing peace and security concerns, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) further strengthened collaboration with Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
NCIP in partnership with National Task Force to End Local Communists Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) spearheaded virtual provincial leveling sessions on ICCs/IPs self-governance with provincial, local, and national government agencies; provincial, city and municipal local chief executives or representatives; NCIP commissioners, and ICCs and IP representatives.
NCIP chairperson Sec. Allen Capuyan said the session aims to provide knowledge on the IPs’ culture and heritage, 36 rights, the 11 Building Blocks of resilient, responsive, and relevant ICCs/IPs ancestral domains, and six stages of engaging ICCs/IPs, among others.
Capuyan, who is also the NTF-ELCAC Executive Director, said that NCIP plans to establish a 24/7 command center for the ancestral domain.
“Meron tayong iseset up na [We will set up a] command center sa NCIP, 24/7, monitoring of activities for the ancestral domain,” he said.
Meanwhile, Datu Lipatuan Joel Unad from Ubo-Manuvu Tribe shared their tribe’s model of ICCs/IPs ancestral domain through a presentation. NCIP also encouraged the IPS to create presentations of their ancestral domains to easily evaluate them.
