DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Aug. 23 (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation in Guihulngan City engaged the young people in their city in activities that would demonstrate the importance of government-citizenship partnership.
Guihulngan City SK Federation President Jose Molas told Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Martin Andanar during the Network Briefing News interview on Aug. 16 that they have started a day care rehabilitation project which involved the youth in their city.
“Some of the day care centers in Barangay Poblacion are dilapidated. They are run down so we figured that we should rally the community, Bayanihan style, to help solve this problem,” Molas said.
“This way, we can demonstrate to young children the importance of cooperation and doing civic duty to help the government especially in projects directly affecting them. We must not always be in the receiving end. We must also try to contribute to the society,” he added.
Despite the restrictions imposed during the pandemic, the SK Federation in Guihulngan City was able to implement essential programs and services for the young people in their city.
“What we are doing is to make ourselves available in order to give support for instance, we assist them on how to avail them on how to avail scholarship since our city government has a strong scholarship program. We also help raise funds for those who wish to participate in competitions and we try to get things done on virtual because that is what we are allowed to do right now,” Molas said.
The SK official encouraged his fellow youth to cooperate with the government in its campaign against COVID-19.
“We should cooperate with the government. We should all stay at home as much as possible and vaccinate at the earliest opportunity. Let us also convince others especially family members by being providers of accurate information,” Molas said. (RAL/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
