DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Aug. 23 (PIA) -- Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo emerged as one of the top five performing local chief executives in Central Visayas, according to an independent, non-commissioned survey.
Remollo received the approval rating of 69.1% that ranked him as the 4th best performing city mayor.
The survey was conducted from Aug. 1 to 10 by the RP Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMDinc) nationwide for all mayors, governors, and members of the House of Representatives.
The five chief executives in Region 7 who got approval ratings include Mandaue City, Cebu Mayor Jonas Cortes as first top performer with 71%, followed by Mayor John Geesnell Yap of Tagbilaran City, Bohol with 70%; Mayor Pryde Henry Teves of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental with 69.5% for the 3rd spot; and Mayor Junard Chan of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu with 68%.
The ratings and rankings are dependent on their job performance amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The expectations and duties of the mayors are extensive that encompasses several roles being the local chief executive, supervise and implement all policies and programs, projects and services of the local government unit.
This include the enforcement of laws and ordinances in relation to the governance of the city.
The mayors were also determined by their initiatives and maximize the generation of resources and revenues and use these for implementing plans, and most importantly, addressing and responding to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Dr. Paul Martinez, executive director of RPMD.
The “RPMD Public Satisfaction Survey” conducted by RPMD is an independent, non-commissioned nationwide survey and performed per district/city in every region with a total of 10,000 respondents and were asked “Do you approve or disapprove of the way [Name of Mayor/Governor/ District Representative] is handling his/her job as (Mayor/Governor/District Representative)?”
RPMD recently celebrated its 11th year anniversary and vowed to continue collaborative relationships with their partners so that society can grasp the latest developments in terms of the political leaders’ performances, accomplishments, and areas of improvements. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
