NAPOLCOM-1 to kick off National Crime Prevention Week celeb

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Aug. 27 (PIA) – The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Regional Office 1 will officially launch the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) celebration on September 1.

NCPW is being observed every first week of September of every year by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 461 series of 2021 signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on Aug. 31, 1994.

The celebration was institutionalized to generate community awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of crime prevention and foster interest and participation of the general public.

Also, it aims for the government to continue provide services for an efficient and effective judicial system to mitigate conditions that may lead to violation of crimes.

This year’s celebration goes with the theme, “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magtulungan: Krimen, Korupsiyon, at Pandemya Labanan.”

“Itong selebrasyon natin ay nakatutok ngayong taon para maisulong ang ating mga adbokasiya laban sa krimen at korupsiyon sa gitna ng pandemya,” said Atty. Joseph Apolonio of NAPOLCOM-1 during an interview over PIA's Tugstugan at Balitaan.

A virtual NCPW launching ceremony will be held to be participated in by police officers, fellow law enforcement units, partner national government agencies, and non-government organizations.

The simultaneous blowing of whistles will be done to signal the start of the celebration.

Then, series of webinars will be staged for lectures on community and service-oriented policing, cyber-bullying, and illegal drugs.

On the fourth day, an outreach program will be conducted wherein target beneficiaries are the persons with disabilities in the municipality of San Juan, La Union.

On Sept. 7, the weeklong celebration will be culminated.

Meanwhile, Apolonio cited the challenge that state forces are facing to deliver their mandate and enforce peace and order amid the pandemic.

“Iba 'yung kinahihirap ng ating mga kapulisan ngayon dahil bukod sa paglaban sa krimen at korupsyon ay kailangan din nilang harapin ang banta ng pandemya,” he cited. (JCR/AMB/CGC, PIA La Union)
