She also said that the travel time from Tubao to Asin, Benguet using the bridge is reduced by 20 minutes.

Further, she mentioned that in 2019, the construction of the 7.31-kilometer Candon City By-Pass Road in Ilocos Sur worth P717.671 million was also completed and was inaugurated by President Duterte.

In 2020, the construction of the 71.7-kilometer Urdaneta By-Pass Road which starts from the junction of barangay Nagkayasan to barangay Anonas has started. It has a total project cost of P1.98 billion, benefiting about 38,000 motorists.

Additional features for completion of the Urdaneta project include drainage systems, pedestrian lanes, street lights and signages are expected to be finished on the following months.

Another high impact project reported by DPWH-1 is the construction of the Laoag City By-Pass Road in Ilocos Norte.

“At present, we are trying to complete the construction of a twin bridge, with a total allocation of P1.549 billion which will benefit about 13,215 motorists plying the area per day,” Manzano added.

Moreover, the Bauang-San Fernando-San Juan By-Pass Road which has two sections: The San Juan-San Fernando section and the Bauang section that will connect the whole by-pass, are still under completion, Manzano reported.

She further stated that the San Juan-San Fernando section is at 93.4 percent, and the Bauang section is at 24.27 percent completion rate, with a total allocation of P810 million and P2.794 billion, respectively, that will benefit 25,206 motorists per day.

This project started in 2018 and is targeted to be finished by 2024.

“One of the gauge in infrastructure development is the reduced travel time, because the faster we move people, products and services, the higher the economic impact it will give to the communities,” she added.

The motorists to be benefited is based on the 2019 annual average daily traffic.

In closing, she said that DPWH-1 will continue to provide the best possible infrastructure services to the Filipino people. (JCR/AHFF/PIA-1)
