ILIGAN CITY (PIA)--The radio-based instruction (RBI) program has played a great role in improving the distance learning of pupils, according to the Iligan City Schools Division.

"Dako ug tabang [This is a big help] because these materials are pre-recorded and some schools were given portable radio and USB [flashdrives] and they can replay the lessons," said Rustico Jerusalem, division information officer of Department of Education Iligan during the 11th episode of Kapehan sa Iligan Chamber.

Jerusalem said that RBI is helpful especially to those students who are in the hinterlands as they face challenges, especially with the pandemic.

He also explained that RBI is not a modality as it only supports and complements distance learning.

According to him, DepEd Iligan plans to fully implement RBI for Grade 9 students this year.

"We will be making use of technology for 2021," Jerusalem said.

The information officer said that their Schools Division Superintendent instructed them to maximize the use of technology. Through their cyber school, learners can download modules, answer activities and submit it through the internet.

DepEd Iligan also extended its gratitude to its partners both in private and public institutions.

Radyo Pilipinas Iligan is just one of their partners for RBI. The government radio station allots four hours,  from 1 pm to 4pm, daily to air the learning modules provided by DepEd. (LELA/ PIA Lanao del Norte
